Finding Ours

We have located “OURS” buried or commemorated in 21 countries including 14 States and almost every province and territory in Canada.  "OURS" refers to those who served who are from Newfoundland or Labrador.

We have burials sites of "OURS" who served in the US Military, British Forces (Army, Navy, Naval Reserve and Air Forces), Australian Army, New Zealand Army South African Army and the Canadian Forces (Army, Navy, Naval Reserve and Air Forces).

These maps show some of the areas of where we have located graves and memorials. War dead are listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Site and are relatively easy to find and locate.  Memorials to the missing are similarly listed and easy to find.

Official National and Community Memorials are also relatively easy to locate. Those that returned after the wars and those that retirement are difficult to locate and there has been decades of research already completed by many of our members. Of the thirteen plus thousand that served in WW1 we have located over 10 thousand to date.

Those of “OURS” who have no identifiable resting place consist mainly of the men of the Newfoundland (later The Royal Newfoundland) Regiment.  587 and another 366 that served in other branches and militaries in WWI.  Including the 442, that we know of so far, from WWII this is 1395 missing who have no known grave.

Some 13250 plus Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, or persons from other
nations enlisted in the branches of the Newfoundland Military, served in the
Great War. Around 6300 in the Regiment and about 7200 in the military services of Canada, Britain, USA, Australia, and South Africa.

Persons were at times identified by the rank on their uniform or by regimental
badges and insignia.
